About Þrya/THRYA
In Old Norse, the name “Þrya” (often spelled “Thrya” in modern contexts) is associated with the goddess of fertility and is related to the word “Þrymr,” which means “to roar” or “to make a noise.” It can also be connected to the idea of strength or force. Þrya is not one of the most commonly known Norse deities but is sometimes mentioned in relation to the larger pantheon of Norse mythology.
The name “Þrya” is pronounced roughly as “THR-yah.”
The “Þ” (thorn) is pronounced like the “th” in “this,” so it sounds like “TH.”
The “ry” can be pronounced similar to “ree” or “r-ya,” where the “y” makes a light “y” sound.
The “a” is pronounced as in “father.”
Þrya embodies strength and resilience. She is linked to the concept of empowerment, helping individuals regain their strength and confidence after facing challenges or battles, and provides support for those who have faced adversity. In this sense, Þrya could symbolize a tutor or guide for those who have been weakened, helping them to heal and regain their footing in the face of life’s struggles.
Þrya embodies qualities of perseverance and endurance. In contexts where individuals face hardship or battles, she represents the inner strength needed to overcome adversity. Þrya might also take on the role of a healer or protector who aids warriors struggling after conflict—providing not just physical strength but also emotional and spiritual support in their recovery.
Resilience: Þrya is a symbol of resilience, representing those who rise again after setbacks.
Guidance: Þrya is a guiding force, helping others navigate through difficult times and guiding them through their learning journeys.
We chose the symbol of two trees supporting each other, both determined to thrive even after having been battered by many storms. This we believe is more realistic than the most common tree of life symbol showing an ideal and perfect tree. No real tree (or life) is ever so perfect yet all are perfect in their imperfection and stronger because of the storms they have survived.
